Biomass Energy Development Agency – Overview

Indian government realised the need for development of biomass energy projects way back in 1981 when it started National Programme on Biogas Development. Later it also set up Gasification Research centre in IITs of Bangalore, Mumbai etc., Later GOI has set up IREDA – Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency – which was instrumental in setting up several pilot projects across India.

Slowly realizing the potential state governments have started have set up state renewable energy development agencies in support with IREDA. Among the pioneers were TEDA – Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency which was set up in 1984.
